Iran Warns US of Decisive Response to Interference and Threats

Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the “interventionist” remarks made by US President Donald Trump regarding Iran’s internal affairs, stressing that the Tehran's response to any aggression will be swift, decisive, and comprehensive.

Trump recently supported Iranian protesters in a message and threatened Tehran, stating Washington was ready to take action if protesters were suppressed. These remarks followed strikes and marches by groups of Iranians protesting the sharp decline of the rial against the dollar and high prices, which in some cases led to violence.

In its statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said such irresponsible stances are not only a gross violation of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law regarding national sovereignty, but also amount to encouraging violence and terrorism against Iranian citizens.

The Ministry reminded the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General of their duties under the Charter to protect international peace and security against aggressive US unilateralism, stressing that Iranians will not allow any malicious interference in their internal dialogue to solve problems. It added that the US would bear full responsibility for the consequences of such a situation, which could further destabilize the region.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also took to X, describing Trump’s remarks as “reckless and dangerous” and “likely influenced by those who fear diplomacy or mistakenly believe it is unnecessary.”

He stated that Iranians have been impacted by transient exchange rate volatility and have been peacefully protesting, “as is their right,” but noted isolated incidents of “violent riots,” which he described as criminal attacks on public property that cannot be tolerated.

“As in the past, the Great People of Iran will forcefully reject any interference in their internal affairs. Similarly, our Powerful Armed Forces are on standby and know exactly where to aim in the event of any infringement of Iranian sovereignty,” Araghchi added.

Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s ambassador to the UN, also stated in a letter to the Security Council that such threats, regardless of political excuse or rhetorical framing, are absolutely prohibited under international law.

He argued that any attempt to incite or legitimize domestic unrest as a pretext for external pressure or military intervention is a gross violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, breaching UN Charter Articles 2(1), 2(4), and 2(7), as well as General Assembly Resolution 2625. Iravani noted that facilitating subversive or violent activities inside another state is an internationally wrongful act that triggers the direct responsibility of the intervening government.

He called on the Secretary-General and the Security Council to explicitly condemn the US President's reckless remarks and demand that the United States immediately adhere to its international obligations and cease all threats or use of force.
