In a joint statement released following recent nationwide unrest, the heads of Iran’s three branches of government–the executive, legislative, and judicial–pledged to address pressing economic challenges and ensure public safety.
President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei vowed to work collaboratively, leveraging the expertise of national intellectuals and within the bounds of legal authority, to resolve livelihood and economic issues and safeguard public security, according to IRNA.
The statement, issued on January 19, also addressed the handling of recent violent incidents, promising a thorough and impartial investigation into the root causes while ensuring swift justice for perpetrators and agitators. Simultaneously, the top officials pledged to exercise clemency toward those who were misled and played a minor role in the violence.
Describing the recent unrest as a “complex plot” orchestrated by long-standing enemies of the Islamic Revolution and carried out by terrorist groups and agitators, the leaders lauded the vigilance of the Iranian people in distinguishing between peaceful protesters and instigators.
They also praised the responsible efforts of security forces, including the police, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and the Basij militia, in thwarting the plotters’ plans.
The unrest, which began in late 2025 with economic protests across several Iranian cities, escalated into violence in early January, resulting in numerous casualties.
The Iranian government accuses Israel and the United States of directing and training terrorist groups to incite the violence and transform peaceful economic demonstrations into a chaotic and deadly situation.
