In an unprecedented display of diplomatic openness and cultural exchange, the Embassy of Uruguay in Tehran opened its doors on October 4 to host a landmark luncheon that brought together some of Iran's most prominent journalists and distinguished ambassadors from across Latin America and Spain.
The event, organized under the gracious patronage of His Excellency Ambassador Beraldo Roque Nicola, welcomed ambassadors from Brazil, Cuba, Spain, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, along with senior officials from Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
For the journalists in attendance, the gathering offered a welcome respite from the relentless demands of their profession. It provided a rare opportunity to engage in substantive dialogue with the diplomatic community, explore the rich cultural heritage of the represented nations, and forge stronger bonds with fellow media professionals.
Ambassador Nicola: "Your Role Is More Important Than Ever"
Addressing the assembled guests, Ambassador Nicola delivered a thoughtful and wide-ranging speech that underscored the indispensable role of journalists in facilitating diplomatic understanding.

"Iran today is experiencing special circumstances, and in such conditions, your role and responsibility are more important and necessary than ever," the Ambassador declared, offering sincere thanks to media professionals for "their commitment, efforts, the achievements resulting from their work, and the high professional level they demonstrate in carrying out their duties."
The Ambassador revealed that when he first proposed the idea of hosting such a gathering to his fellow ambassadors, the response was universally enthusiastic. He noted that the presence of ambassadors from Brazil, Cuba, Spain, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Uruguay at the luncheon reflected a shared appreciation for the critical work journalists perform.
"Without your efforts and the news you continuously publish, as well as analytical articles, reports, and other journalistic content, the tasks of embassies and diplomats residing in Iran would be far more difficult and complex," Nicola emphasized, adding that he had personally served in several countries and had always admired the professionalism of the journalists he encountered.
A Journalist's Perspective
Following the Ambassador's remarks, Mahnaz Abdi, an editor at Tehran Times, spoke on behalf of her colleagues. In her address, she expressed profound gratitude to Ambassador Nicola for his generous hospitality and gracious character, describing the gathering as truly memorable.

Abdi thanked the distinguished ambassadors for honoring the occasion with their friendship and participation, emphasizing how much their presence meant to the journalists. She expressed hope that the occasion would strengthen understanding, respect, and friendship among nations, wishing all attendees continued success, peace, and prosperity.
A Testament to International Solidarity
The luncheon stands as a meaningful demonstration of diplomatic engagement and international solidarity. Deep gratitude is extended to Ambassador Nicola and the Embassy of Uruguay for their exceptional hospitality, as well as to the ambassadors of Brazil, Cuba, Spain, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, whose presence elevated the event.
Such interactions are considered essential to strengthening ties among nations and building peace and mutual understanding. This initiative—bringing together the worlds of journalism and diplomacy in an atmosphere of mutual respect—is regarded as worthy of appreciation and praise.
