Iran’s Minister of Energy Abbas Aliabadi met Mawlawi Ahmad Jan Bilal, head of Afghanistan’s State Companies Organization, in Kabul on the second day of a visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. The two sides discussed water and energy cooperation, with representatives of 44 affiliated companies outlining their needs. The meeting was reported by Iranian state media.
Bilal welcomed the Iranian delegation and launched a political attack on the United States and the former Soviet Union, accusing them of decades of occupation and aggression against Afghanistan. He said Washington still seeks regional influence and warned that Afghans and Iranians would not permit interference. Referring to U.S. pressure on Iran, he said Muslims should stand united against aggressors and that Afghanistan stands “shoulder to shoulder” with Iran.
Aliabadi thanked Afghan officials for their hospitality and said his mission was to expand relations as much as possible. He praised Afghans’ role in resisting imperialism and said Iran sees itself alongside the Afghan people. On electricity, he acknowledged Afghanistan’s problems and offered to send Iranian experts and delegations to help resolve them. The meeting underscores Iran’s efforts to deepen economic and energy engagement with Taliban-ruled Afghanistan amid regional isolation and urgent infrastructure needs.
