On the sidelines of the IMF–World Bank meetings in Bangkok, Iran’s economy minister presses for faster clearance of approved projects, renewal of credit lines and smoother repayment of obligations
Iran’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance used a meeting with the head of the Islamic Development Bank to call for faster finalization of approved projects, removal of implementation bottlenecks and fuller use of the bank’s financing capacity for the country’s priority schemes.
Seyyed Ali Madanizadeh met Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank, on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Bangkok, according to a report carried by Iranian media. The two sides reviewed the implementation of projects supported by the Jeddah-based lender and discussed ways to deepen financial and development cooperation.
Madanizadeh said the talks focused in particular on following up approved projects and clearing obstacles to their execution, especially in the environmental, urban wastewater and educational infrastructure sectors.
The meeting also examined extending the validity of credits and re-approving a number of priority projects whose assessment stages had already been completed. Both sides stressed the need to pursue the use of remaining projected credits to finish projects already under implementation.
Beyond project pipelines, the discussions covered banking coordination, the finalization of installment-related payments and measures to ease the repayment of financial obligations — issues that officials said could help prevent interruptions in project execution and sustain joint cooperation.
The two sides emphasized continued expert-level consultations, removal of existing obstacles and a sharper focus on completing semi-finished projects, with the aim of making more effective use of the cooperation capacities available through the Islamic Development Bank.
