Iran, Vietnam Move to Turn ICT Cooperation Into a Signed Partnership

Iran and Vietnam are seeking to convert their diplomatic ties into a concrete communications and technology partnership, with Tehran signaling readiness to finalize a cooperation memorandum and expand joint work in the sector.

The push came in a meeting between Mohammad Hafez Hakami, deputy minister of communications and information technology for technology, innovation and international affairs, and Vietnam’s ambassador to Iran, Nguyen Luong Ngoc.

Hakami pointed to the two countries’ diplomatic relations and stressed the importance of deepening ties with friendly countries and using shared capacities to broaden cooperation in communications and information technology.

He called for the cooperation memorandum between Iran and Vietnam to be finalized and signed, and said Iran was ready to expand interactions with Vietnam across various fields in the sector.

Hakami also urged the two sides to identify new areas of cooperation and draw on existing capacities to develop technological exchanges.

The meeting fits into Iran’s broader “technology diplomacy” push, with communications and technology cooperation with Vietnam among the areas being pursued in bilateral relations. Finalizing pending agreements and strengthening coordination for joint programs are among the next steps.
