Solar Shift in Iran’s Industrial Parks: 400 MW Reaches National Grid

Iran has connected 400 megawatts of solar capacity in its industrial estates and zones to the national grid, as it tries to loosen electricity limits on manufacturers. Tahmoorth Lahouti, deputy industry minister and head of the Iran Small Industries and Industrial Parks Organization, announced the milestone during a visit to Borujerd Special Economic Zone, where he reviewed infrastructure and projects under construction and pledged faster completion of semi-finished schemes and support for active units.

Lahouti said financing and follow-up with other agencies remain priorities. To manage the sector’s energy imbalance, about 8,000 hectares in industrial parks have been allocated for renewable investment, and factories are being encouraged to install rooftop solar panels. He urged the Energy Ministry to factor industrial parks—especially SMEs—into power-restriction planning, arguing investments should mean fewer outages for small and medium enterprises.

The organization is also rolling out smart management, starting with shared infrastructure and extending to supply, production and distribution inside units. Abbasabad Industrial Estate is the pilot, with operational work due by year-end in cooperation with the presidential science and technology deputy; next year, one estate in each province will follow. The aim is greater transparency and faster decisions.
